How to Make a Live Photo from a Video on iPhone

Live Photos capture a moment in motion — but iOS has no built-in way to turn an existing video into one. Here's how to do it in under a minute with LiveMaker, entirely on your device.

What you'll need

An iPhone or iPad on iOS 16 or later, the free LiveMaker app, and any video in your Photos library or Files app.

Step by step

  1. Pick your video

Open LiveMaker and choose any clip from your Photos library or the Files app. There's no length limit on the source — you'll trim it in the next step.

  2. Trim to the perfect moment

Drag the timeline handles to select your window. Move the marker to choose the still (key) frame — that's the image people see before the Live Photo plays — and crop or set the orientation if you want a different composition.

  3. Save to Photos

Tap Convert & Save. Your new Live Photo lands straight in your camera roll, ready to press-and-hold to play, or set as an animated lock-screen wallpaper.
